County Administrator Christine Hurley

The county administrator is responsible for the daily operation of Monroe County and its departments. The county administrator is responsible for carrying out the county's functions and activities and ensuring effective, efficient operations.

Christine Hurley is the county administrator, the county’s top leadership position. She is a former assistant county administrator and the former executive director of the Monroe County Land Authority. She was appointed to the position by the Board of County Commissioners on Sept. 12, 2024.  

Hurley started with the county in 2009 as the Growth Management Division Director. In 2015, she transitioned to assistant county administrator, and in 2021, she became the head of the land authority.

She holds degrees in Public Administration and Economics and is certified by the American Institute of Certified Planners.

She has accomplished notable achievements in her career, including developing a land-acquisition methodology leveraging state funding to support county preservation, championing affordable housing initiatives after Hurricane Irma swept through the Keys, and working with FEMA to end the decades-long downstairs enclosure pilot program. That program created a pathway for the county to be considered in good standing with FEMA, which opened the door to the Community Rating System and secured significant flood insurance discounts for private property owners. Before coming to Monroe County, she held similar positions in the City of Fort Myers and worked in the private sector as a consultant.

The Board of County Commissioners and the county administrator do not oversee functions handled by Monroe County’s elected constitutional officers.
