Monroe County may resell vacant County-owned land that was acquired through the Density Reduction Program. Such parcels are made available to property owners that own a primary dwelling unit next to the vacant land, or to property owner associations interested in providing green space for their neighborhoods. The process is completed through a competitive mail-in bidding system and provides an opportunity for residents to expand their yards and build accessory structures that are permitted by the County’s regulations. When the property is sold, a restriction is recorded that prohibits the buyer from seeking a building permit on the lot for a residence or structures with habitable space. This program permanently retires density and potential development requests for that parcel.
